WOODFORD 8 TWICKENHAM 26 Twickenham notched up an impressive away win in London League 2 North at Woodford, courtesy of a good all-round team effort. Playing against a young but determined opposition, T’s took the lead when a break by centre Joe Foley, making a welcome return to the side, lead to flanker Charlie I’Anson laying off the ball to captain James Clark to score under the posts. Clark added the conversion. Huge pressure in the forwards from the front row of James Burt, Chris Tytherleigh, and Paddy Mooney paid off when they took an opposition put-in and allowed winger Leon John to round his man for a try in the corner. By half time Woodford had themselves got a try and a penalty for the 12-8 turnaround to T’s. The second half was all Twickenham, with an outstanding performance from man-of-the match, second row Neil Walker. There were two tries. A typical Leon John break and outpacing of the defensive cover allowed the speedy winger to go under the posts for Clark to convert. Then, Number 8 Nathan Dawes looked to have the final try in the bag but he was stopped just short of the line and it was prop Paddy Mooney who registered the touch-down. Clark’s conversion made it 26-8 to T’s.
