London Scottish 42 - Twickenham 10

Our nearest away fixture and if London Scottish get promoted we will miss this league encounter though not so much after this match.

The teams ran on to a firm pitch, light wind and spring sunshine to the noise, not to everyone’s taste, of bagpipes. Scottish kicked off, immediately regained possession and proceeded to mount a series of strong attacks on the Twickenham line and after 4 minutes scored a try near the posts adding the two extra points.

From the restart Twickenham were awarded a penalty, which was quickly taken by Rogers passed on to Dawes who took the ball into contact. From the ruck, the ball was moved quickly right where Leon John was able to outpace the cover and the fullback to score under the posts. He added the two points himself. Seven minutes gone honors even.

After missing one penalty attempt at goal, Scottish opted for a kick to touch. A well worked lineout move with a front peel and despite T’s stout defending shear weight of numbers gave Scottish a try near the posts plus another conversion. From the restart T’s pressured the Scottish defense and were awarded a penalty deep in the 22, which John kicked.

Twenty-five minutes gone and 24 points, was this going to be an 80-point match? Sadly this was the last time Twickenham would bother the scorer. Scottish however were to score three times more before half time, two unconverted tries and a penalty. Half time 27 - 10.

After half time Scottish retained possession for long periods recycling the ball efficiently from ruck and maul. After 15minutes were awarded a penalty which they kicked.

This plethora of possession was to lead to three more unconverted tries. The last two however may have benefited from slow motion replay as on both occasions the referee, who had an excellent game otherwise, chose to overrule his touch judges.

Final score 42 – 10.
