Match report.
Twickenham 25- Letchworth 3.
Within
four minutes of the kick of Letchworth fumbled a ball in their 22 which gave
Phil Astbury the chance to scoop it up and sprint 30yards to score a try under
the post, which he converted. Letchworth, a club that has given Ts problems in
the past, never really got into the game and conceded too many penalties due to
being under tremendous pressure from the mobile Twickenham pack who were working
in unison and countering the bigger physical presence of the Letchworth
forwards.
After
another 3 penalty taken by the home side, a good take from a lineout and a 10
meter drive by the forwards, Ts crossed the Letchworth line again with Charlie
I’anson emerging with the ball as the scorer. Score at half time 15-0.
Letchworth
tried to rally themselves after the interval and forced a penalty from
Twickenham for lying on the ball and scored their first and only points of the
match.
Another
Astbury penalty increased the margin further to be followed by fine line out
take and drive , this time the ball being spun out by Andy Rogers to Russell
Whittam to score his fifth try of the season which was converted by James
Clark.
This
was another good performance but Twickenham, who due to changes in the fixture
list have so far played all their games at home. Next week’s away game against
Norwich will be a sterner test, and will give a good indication of what their
potential really is.
