T's complete an unbeaten January......

T's completed the month with a strong win against Lletchworth, in attrotious conditions to cement their 5th place in the league. They have the chance to overtake Thurrock, but given their next five games are against the top four sides in the league, February will be a severe test of their resolve

The Richmond and Twickenham Times report follows:

TWICKENHAM 10 LETCHWORTH GARDEN CITY 0

Heavy rain overnight and on Saturday morning combined with an ever strengthening wind were always going to make playing conditions difficult. In the end both teams coped well and produced exciting rugby.

Letchworth kicked off and immediately put pressure on the Twickenham line with a series of attacks through both backs and forwards. The Twickenham defense was up to the challenge and Letchworth were denied points. A relieving penalty took play to near the half way line and Twickenham’s forwards took up where they left off last week. Securing good lineout ball and executing powerful rolling mauls against a set of forwards who were considerably heavier. It was now T’s turn to mount attacks deep into their opponents 22.

After 20 minutes from the 22 drop out awarded after the ball had gone dead. The ball was partly charged down enabling the T’s fullback Glen Seabrook to combine well with the centres and take play deep into the visitors 22. From the resulting ruck and drive Charlie I’anson pooped up in support of the ball carrier to go over for a try near the posts.
James Clark, Captain, added the extra two points. In spite of sustained pressure by Twickenham this was to remain the only score of the half.

The benefit of the prevailing conditions now favoured Twickenham. However Letchworth started the 2nd half as they had the first with a short period of sustained pressure. Again Twickenham’s defense was up to the task. In spite of Letchworth replacing their No 8 with a more substantial player Twickenham’s forwards took control of the scrums and particularly the rolling mauls.. This paid dividends when ten minutes into the half Twickenham were awarded a penalty midway between the half way line and the 22 face on to the posts. In spite of the treacherous wind conditions James Clark elected to kick and successfully secured the 3 points. 10 – 0 This was to be the only score for the remainder of the match.

Despite the lack of points both side continued to play exciting rugby and indeed Letchworth mounted a series of spirited attacks just before the final whistle.

TWICKENHAM scorers: Try: I’anson, Cons: Clark, Penalty: Clark.

TWICKENHAM: Seabrook, McDermott, Foley, Clark, John,(Rogers 70) Bryce, Peters, Moses, Drinkwater, Thomas, See, Goff, Freeman, I’anson, Dawes

Elsewhere in the Club:

The Trojans continued to emulate the 1st XV and crushed Weybridge Vandals by 47-5 to ensure they continue to be in prime form for the Super Series. My calculations show that they should go into that mini-league well placed to challenge for the title....

Camberley 14
Richmond Saxons 13
Twickenham 12
Wimbledon 11
Guildford 11
Richmond Dev 10
Guildford Dev 8
Barnes 8

playing the highlighted teams in their remaining fixtures, two home and two away

The 'Reds' game was postponed due to the weather, and the 'Blacks' struggled again fo numbers and went down 51-0 to Sutton Martins.

Elsewhere in the League

Most things went to form again....as all the leading sides won. Bad news for Bank of England though as they have been docked 4 points and find themselves in the relegation zone.....will Diss make yet another miracle escape, or will it be Romford who rise from the ashes and earn themselves another season in London 2.

Hertford continue to lead the way in London 1, with Albanians and Nigerians in danger of joining Harlow in the relegation places as Camberley make a spirited bid for survival.....Staines look to be out of trouble, but need to keep focused to avoid slipping back too.

Civil Service and St Albans stay on track to join T's in London 2 next season, subject to playoff battles.
