T's looked to be on the wrong end of a beating by a side against which they fancied their chances against pre-season, but with a mixture of regulars, and 2nd/3rd XV players pulled together to make a side T's can feel proud of their performance in limiting the damage as well as they did.

The Richmond and Twickenham Times report follows:

LETCHWORTH 26 TWICKENHAM 3

Despite the score line, this was a truly magnificent performance by what was in essence almost a second XV for Twickenham. Only 6 of T’s first choice team took the field and among those making up the number were veterans, people who hadn’t played a game this season, and others dredged from the coach’s phone book.

Spectators feared the worst but were treated to a display of guts and courage by a team who knew they were out of the depth but gave every ounce of commitment.

In the first ten minutes Letchworth scored a try in the corner and T’s replied with a Leon John penalty for a 5-3 deficit. T’s did well to hold their opponents to this narrow margin until another try was scored under the posts on the stroke of half time.

12-3 down at the turnaround, things went very badly for T’s in the opening ten minutes of the second half. They conceded two converted tries to be behind by 26-3, and it looked as though the floodgates were going to open.

However, inspired by a Herculean performance by centre Joe Foley, every player gave his all. Letchworth did not score in the last half hour and T’s left the field with their heads held high.

Next week a return to Cup activity and a tough away fixture at Wimbledon which will require another gutsy performance if T’s are to stay in the hunt of silverware.

Elsewhere in the Club

Due to commitments on the other side of the pond, or in it if the photos are anything to be judged by, T's had to scratch the two merit table games against Cobham, and a s a result now sit in the lower half of the pile in both merit tables. Still there is plenty still to play for, and the 'Blacks' can get straight back in the swing of it this weekend.

The 'reds' appear to have had a ball in Boston, although its s'posed to be a secret.

Photos were taken though and can be seen in preview and ordered from this link.  Just quote 2378 as the customer code. I believe one shot shows Burto running with ball in hand, only for the next frame to show it slipping from his grasp like a bar of soap. Steward 'Den' is also featured in the black and red........thanks to Spencer Leonard for braving the elements to take the shots and allowing me to use the ones above, do try to support him.

And have you noticed they have all adopted the 'Foley' look????
