A strange and at times worrying weekend of T's.....again

T's threw away a vital point on Saturday when they allowed Diss to recover from 15-0 down to tie the game 22-22. Diss played with 14 men throughout the time they recovered the game, as a nasty incident involving the Twickenham touchjudge saw a Diss player dismissed from the match. Given Percy Montgomery, the Springbok fullback was given a six month ban for a similar offence, the Diss player should be expecting the worst.

Commitment and the will to win seem to be the things most lacking at the moment, and given the 'Blacks' late cry-off at Hamptonians, it does not seem the 1st XV are alone in that respect.

The Richmond and Twickenham Times report follows:

DISS 22 TWICKENHAM 22

Despite passages of their most scintillating play of the season, Twickenham’s performance was ultimately gravely disappointing. Holding first a 15-0 lead, and later one of 22-10, they allowed Diss to salvage a draw with a try in the corner in the last minute of injury time.

The opening 20 minutes was electrifying. T’s had their first try in 1 min 22 secs, following an incisive break from captain James Clark, playing in the centre, to release winger Tom Howden who just stayed in touch as he charged down the wing.

With some excellent kicking by fly-half Greg Bryce, a second try soon followed from second-row Clive See, and then a major incident following T’s third try.

Wing Jon Taylor got the ball in his own 22 and started a counter attack. He laid off a pass to the other wing Tom Howden who, in a mirror image of the opening try, set off down the touchline. Despite strong challenges he stayed in-field by inches and at the line passed to flanker Charlie I’Anson to touch down.

The closeness of the winger’s run along the touchline caused a moment of absolute madness in a Diss player. In his rage, he floored unsuspecting Twickenham touch-judge, Gary Lacritz from behind, with a blow to the neck. Since the latter is no spring chicken, and has had three top vertebrae removed,, this was potentially an extremely serious assault. The referee stepped in and showed a red card.

15-0 up with the opposition down to 14 it should have been a cricket score for T’s, but lacklustre tackling and selfish holding on to balls in overlap situations was T’s downfall.

Diss got a converted try by the interval to be back in the game. In then second half, another try reduced the lead to 15-12 before T’s had another purple patch, which lead to a try for Kiwi centre Clinton Banks, following a great forward drive.

Diss did not give up and got another try to leave T’s hanging on to a five-point lead. This was eroded with the last play of the match when Diss went over in the corner.

Twickenham scorers: Tries; Tom Howden, Clive See, Charlie I’Anson, Clinton Banks Conversion James Clark.

Elsewhere in the Club:

It was again disappointing that T's were only able to field two sides this weekend. It was even more unfortunate that a late penalty by St Georges Hospital saw them win 3-0 and dent the hopes T's had of gaining entry to the senior super series. It may all hinge on the last game against Richmond Saxons.

The rematch with Norwich has been provisionally scheduled for 17th January, although it is unclear as yet whether Norwich will appeal this decision. As of Saturday they had not.

Elsewhere in the leagues

London Scottish continue their good form at the top of the league, and with Ealing beating third placed Cambridge these two sides now look clear for promotion and play-off places. Romford beat Cheshunt to move off the bottom of the table.

In London 1 both Staines and London Nigerians are struggling to find any sort of form at the moment, although Harlow are well adrift at the bottom.

Civil Service and St Albans set the standard in London NW3.

15 minutes of Fame!!!

My name is Anna Stanley and I'm a freelance journalist working on a feature for B magazine. I'm looking for attactive single young men to include in a dating feature. Yes, its a tough job.

The piece is just a bit of fun - 50 men you can date. My job is to find
these 50 men who are happy to have their pics and a short (v flattering blurb) in the magazine as well as a specially set up email address where readers can get in contact - although of course there is no obligation to date anyone (unless they want to!!)

Should be good fun, and there's also minimum effort required on your behalf - you just need to email me a picture and answer a few questions, which you can also do via email.

Do let me know if you can help. You can either email me at
annakstanley@hotmail.com or call me on 0207 150 7020.

Oh, I should also mention we have a really tight deadline so it would be great to hear from you in the next few days.......

Come on chaps, go for it!!!!
