With T’s kick off
going straight into touch and the following scrum being won against the head
Twickenham could have been forgiven in thinking that things were going to go their way for the rest of the after-noon.
For most of the game they did, although it was Bank who scored the first points
of the match with a penalty in front of the posts after 10minutes.
Fortune indeed smiled
on Twickenham when after 30 mins. a missed attempt at a dropped goal saw I
Anson pluck the ball from the air and score their first try. Shortly after a
kick ahead by Foley gave Isherwood the chance to gather the ball and go over
for the second try which was duly converted by Astbury. Another penalty brought
the score to !5-3 at half time and the Bank very much on the back foot. The
penalty count against Bank had been a major factor in the first half and they
managed to reduce it in the second, when 17minuets into the half T’s prop
Bowler left the field injured. This acted as a spur to the Bank who
substantially raised their game and almost immediately scored an unconverted
try...
Some poor decision
making by Ts may have cost them good scoring opportunities and allowed Bank to
gain confidence and start running the ball with good effect, this resulted in
their winger scoring a try just on the point of full time bringing the scores
level. A final fling saw Twickenham miss a drop goal and rue a game full of
missed caches,
