Twickenham 12 - Civil
Service 62.
Once
again Twickenham were unable to field a first selection due to injuries and
non- availabilities and for the third time in five weeks found themselves
facing league leaders Civil Service, recently augmented by new signings form
higher level clubs. The result was entirely predictable.
Matters
were not helped by the early loss of winger Chris Russell and full back Jimmy
Peters, and with the amount of possession won by the visitors and the pressure
they were able to exert on the Ts there was only going to be one winner, and
they were 5 - 31 up by half time.
Twickenham
did manage to breach the Service defence with well worked tries from Ronnie
Howden and Matt Wadden and Joe Foley
and Charlie I’anson made a prodigious number of telling tackles, as usual the
forwards kept plugging away but the
strength of the Civil Service attacking backs was just too much for Twickenham
to contend with and they ran in twelve tries forcing Ts to concede their
greatest points against tally in recent times the final score being 12 – 62.
Twickenham
will be grateful for the Christmas break and it can only be hoped that they
will be able to pull themselves together quickly enough to face Essex club
Thurrock in the New Year.
